The sixth event in our translation series took place on 2010-09-22, and it has been a very productive one.
A total of 2357 lines were translated, bringing 6 files to a complete translation status. Mathieu Perrault deserves a special mention for translating no less than 1133 lines all by himself. Beside actual translation, Mathieu Leduc-Hamel and myself, Cyril, worked on a Pootle tool-chain which should allow us to increase our productivity during the upcoming sprints.
The sprint was hosted by Google, who also supported us with snacks, pizzas, and drinks. Their M&M dispenser is always appreciated. WingWare also supported our sprinting effort by providing all sprinters with a full 3-OS license for WingWare‘s Python IDE.
The following sprinters were present:
- Davin Baragiotta
- Pior Bastida
- Nicolas Cadou
- Yannick Gingras
- Ali Jetha
- Mathieu Leduc-Hamel
- Julien Nephtali
- Mathieu Perreault
- Pierre Phaneuf (host from Google)
- Cyril Robert
- Marcin Swiatek (host from Google)
- Alexandre Vassalotti

Last week we got the resignation from Montréal Python’s founder, Arach Tchoupani. This resignation prompted us to open the 3 officer positions, and proceed to run an election. All active members of the organizing committee were eligible to vote.
The results are in, and we’re very proud to introduce the new Montréal Python officers:
We all look forward to give one another year of dynamic events that will put forward how Python is shaping the tech scene of Montréal.

One of the great thing with a booming city like Montréal is that we get dynamic companies such as Google improving the synergy of our community by hosting our sprints in bigger rooms and providing food and refreshments.
Our next sprint will be on Django translation on September 22nd, 2010, starting at 18h30. Come and allow us to offer Django to a broader community of developers.
Only one week after that, we’ll host a sprint on the Python packaging system. Come and frantically hack with us to empower Python with the best packaging system out there.
Both sprints will be a Google, 1253 McGill College ave. suite #250.
Attendance is limited to 20 sprinters so don’t forget to RSVP on the wiki.

The technology scene of Montréal is a very vibrant one. With groups such as our selves, OWASP, JS-Montreal, Montreal.rb, and PHP-Québec; with events such as WordCamp, PodCamp, Startup Drinks, and Startup Camp; you end up with weeks during which all your evenings are booked before lunch time on Monday. Yet, it also happens that you have a guest in town and that you want to show then how active you city is without knowing where exactly you should take him to.
Fortunately, some members of the community decided to take the matter in their own hands and to expose for all to see what is going on with the tech and startup scene here in Montréal. Next Montréal is a blog featuring news and opinion from the Web, mobile, and gaming communities. The site is piloted by a handful of Montréal entrepreneurs, engaging us with interviews with the local players and giving us a good feel for who’s working on what and what’s the next big thing. Beyond interviews, Next Montréal brings together the community by posting job opportunities and a calendar of events.
Next Montréal is a great initiative and we hope to see more Python project featured there.
