5th Django translation sprint wrap-up

This 5th Django sprint at the Google office wraps-up on a great conclusion: things are moving forward!
This is 951 new lines translated by our 6 sprinters:

This new effort of translation brings the French translation coverage of the Django 1.2 documentation up to 18%. We estimate that 77% of the French translation has been made by pythonistas of Montréal.

New location for the 5th Django translation sprint

The 5th translation sprint is changing location. Google kindly offered to host the sprint in it’s Montréal office and we gladly move to the new location, which only one block away from the McGill metro station: 1253 McGill College, suite 250.

Django 1.2 has been released and then 1.2.1. The project moves on and so will be our translation effort. Montréal-Python is organizing a next sprint on 2010-06-28 at Google’s office:

The fourth Django translation sprint was very productive. The group is now experienced and we can at last spend more time strugling with the language than with the tools. Anyone knows a good translation for “file handler”?

Follow-up on the 3rd Django Sprint

Thanks to everyone who took part in the latest translation sprint of the Django technical documentation of Django on March 31 at Brasseurs Numériques‘ office.

We were seven motivated Pythonistas and we progressed very quickly in this endeavour.

More than that, numerous contacts have been made with the French Django community (Django-fr). We now try to coordinate a little bit more with them because with the release of Django-1.2 we’ll need to keep up the good work, ideally with more and more people. So far, we’ve completed the translation 12 files from the documentation.

Another sprint will be organized in the following weeks in the hope that we gather more people and to have fun with this work.

Django sprint follow-up

The django translation sprint was a clear success. A team of eight sprinters worked on the Django documentation and after an intense training session on the toolchain, we were able complete a sizable part of the API documentation. Our coach, Mathieu Leduc-Hamel, did a great job pinpointing the relevent documents and supporting the team during our moments of struggle with Mercurial and Sphinx.

This is definitely an adventure that we want to revisit. We estimate that with three or four additional sittings, we would be able to reach the complete translation of the documentation.
